You’ve heard of Orlando and Tampa Bay, but have you heard about St. Petersburg /Clearwater? If you haven’t then you really should as St. Pete’s/ Clearwater is just a 90 min drive away from Orlando and 30 mins from Tampa and Busch Gardens and is a beach paradise.
St. Pete’s/ Clearwater offer a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Orlando and Tampa Bay, making it a perfect stop on your Florida holiday. As you can see from the above photo it’s a beach lover’s heaven with 35 miles of award winning white sand beaches. A short road trip to this beautiful part of Florida is a great way to find some relaxation in a beautiful and natural landscape. There is a huge choice of beaches in the area and you’ll find each one of them different. In between Fort De Soto and Caladesi Island you’ll find sun-soaked beach treasures of every type including quaint Pass-a-Grille, perfect for catching sunsets or bustling hot spots like Clearwater Beach, where “see and be seen” is an all-day activity
As I mentioned the beaches are stunning and if you fancy a break from sunbathing then you’ll find plenty of entertainment in the shape of water sports, boat and fishing trips. You can expect all the usual water sports and more. For adrenaline junkies, I’d recommend a visit to the Pro Kiteboarding Center. For a slightly slower pace you can take a stand up paddle tour (very fun), hire a kayak or even your own boat.
Of course there is so much more to St. Petes/ Clearwater than beaches (though I could easily spend all my days there), there are plenty of attractions and entertainment for all ages and group types. In fact there are 26 different communities within the area which all offer a unique experience and culture. I could go on for sometime but here are a few of the area’s popular attractions:
The Salvador Dali Museum– well worth a day away from the sand to soak up some artistic culture.
Great Explorations– this is a museum for children, which has a range of educational (and fun) exhibits, great for a family day out.
The Morean Arts Center– Another one for art fans, a collection of beautiful modern art including an exclusive permanent exhibition showcasing Dale Chihuly’s artwork.
Downtown St. Pete nightlife – There is a huge range of bars and nightlife in downtown St.Pete, from salsa to live music there’s plenty of choice for a late night of fun.
Golf– There is a huge range of golf courses in the area, The Vinoy Club is a great one to visit as the natural surroundings are a fantastic backdrop to your game.
St. Petes/ Clearwater is the perfect beach destination, and I’d certainly recommend visiting this part of Florida if you are visiting Orlando and Tampa. It’s an ideal place to unwind and relax, yet there’s still plenty to do if you want a break from sunbathing.
