Friday Five- Five Love Islands you should visit

If like me you are glued to the latest reality dating show Love Island, you’ll know that the contestants have been sunning themselves up in Majorca in the search of love. Watching the show has made me think about islands which are perfect for romantic breaks. So if you were thinking of whisking a loved one away to a beautiful island, any of these will do very nicely.

No doubt you’ve seen these Greek islands in many photos. It is certainly one of the prettiest parts of Greece, with white washed buildings, boutique hotels and spectacular sunsets; it’s bound to get any couple in the mood. The island is a popular honeymoon destination and you’ll find there is a huge choice of hotels, many of which face the cliff tops, providing jaw dropping views. There are 5 islands to choose from, all equally as beautiful as the other but Oia and Fira are particularly popular.

Sardinia is a large Italian island that is filled with beautiful white beaches, crystal clear waters and historical buildings. The island is romantic not just because of the idyllic beaches but also because of its forested mountains, excellent choice of hotels and fine dining. For active couples you can take a trek through Giara Park in Tuili where you can hike through the lush green forests and spot wild horses. You’ll find plenty of luxury hotels just outside the capital of Cagliari, where you can treat yourself to a plush romantic hotel by the coast.

Els Pujols beach Formentera

It’s fair to say Fomentera is the least famous of the Balearic Islands but that doesn’t mean it should be forgotten about. Fuerteventura provides a quiet haven in comparison to the neighboring islands of Ibiza and Majorca and the beaches have a tropical feel to them. The island prides itself on its natural beauty and is very environmentally conscious, with minimal buildings and roads. You can get to the island via ferry from Ibiza. You won’t find many big hotels here as it’s mainly affordable and friendly small hotels close to the beach. Formentera is perfect for a relaxing on the beach and exploring the natural surroundings via bicycle.

You can’t get much more romantic than the Maldives now can you? These islands are undeniably paradise on earth. The Maldives are a very popular honeymoon destination, and with the postcard perfect beaches and surroundings it’s not surprising they are so popular. The hotels on the islands are incredible and there are many water villas which rest on the ocean. A holiday to the Maldives is like no other and certainly one to make you feel romantic.

Santa Eulalia

When you hear Ibiza you think of the clubs, but the island also has a different, beautiful side which is perfect for couples. On the south-east coast of the island is Santa Eulalia which is a laid back resort filled with beautiful beaches, an upmarket marina and an entire street dedicated to local restaurants. You’ll find the resort is more traditionally Spanish compared to San Antonio and Playa den Bossa and life is certainly at a much slower pace. There are many lovely boutique hotels in Ibiza, many of which have wonderful infinity pools overlooking the coast. Ibiza sunsets are of course famous and there’s nothing more romantic than a golden sunset over the sea.
