Deciding where to go on your family holiday isn’t easy.
Once you do lock down a destination, you have to scroll through an infinite list of hotels that all look and sound the same.
We all know that happy kids, generally, equals happy parents. But it’s a nice bonus if the place you choose can be lovely for the grown-ups too.
Travelling with a baby, toddler, junior or teenager – or all of the above? Here are some suggestions that we hope will help you pick the one that’s perfect for everyone.
1) H10 Mediterranean Village, Salou, Spain
This hotel chain (H10) runs its Daisy Club program for kids of all ages across 20 of its hotels. But we’ve picked out the 4* Mediterranean Village in Salou because it is one of four which has Baby, Mini, Junior and Teen Clubs, as well as a Daisy Adventure Area – complete with pirate ship, water slides and water jets!
This hotel really pays attention to offering clubs that appeal to all age groups. For the teens, who can be the hardest to please, they arrange more grown-up games on the beach and day trips out to the surrounding area, giving them the chance to be a little more independent.
The H10 Mediterranean Village is located right on the beach, which is great for when the kids are in their clubs. You can pop out for some quality adult time yet still be near enough should the kids need you. This hotel has three restaurants, two bars, a snack bar, a children’s buffet, and a cool hot dog bar. So we think it’ll pretty much cover everyone’s culinary needs! It’s also just a few kilometres from Port Aventura theme park.
2) Marbella Corfu, Corfu, Greece
A 5* hotel in Corfu, this will have both you and the kids delighted! It feels a bit like a hotel just for adults with its lavish surroundings, but they have worked hard to make it great for families too.
It has the Meli Creche Club (4 month – 4 years), run by fully-trained WWKC staff, which offers a program specially designed for babies and infants – including a state of the art animation suite.
While for those between 4 – 12 years, there’s the kids club, offering them a schedule of activities, entertainment and excursions.
It also has a teens club with age appropriate activities for young adults up to 18 years – a vast array of activities, including archery, horse riding, cookery classes and water sports. So you can have time to go and enjoy an array of adult activities, such as the gym, spa treatments, mountain biking, trekking or onsite yoga and aerial yoga.
3) Aparthotel Costa Encantada, Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava, Spain
This 4* aparthotel offers the best of both worlds. It has the perks that come with staying in an apartment along with the facilities associated with a hotel. This is great for families, as you have the flexibility and cost-effectiveness that comes from a self catering apartment with one or two bedrooms, allowing you to prepare what your family likes, when they like and relatively cheaply. Yet you can enjoy the hotel’s restaurant, bar, pool and other amenities too if you wish. Oh, and house-keeping comes to clean your apartment each day too!
This aparthotel is situated just 600 metres from the beach in Lloret de Mar but has mountains on its doorstep! Some say the Costa Encantada is the best kept secret of the Costa Brava. So, shhh! Mum’s the word.
This is also a great area for those with older children as it has two of the best water parks in Spain nearby. Water World in Lloret de Mar is well-known around Spain (and Europe) as one of the top water parks, with some seriously cool slides and rides! While Illa Fantasia water park is especially great for teens. It holds activities and pool parties aimed at that age group, but it’s open to all the family with something for everyone. The highlight of the event calendar is Aqua Sound Party – a giant pool party with a live DJ!
4) Viva Zafiro Alcudia & SPA, Alcudia, Majorca
The Viva Zafiro 5* hotel is just 300 metres from Alcudia Bay, a long-time favourite with families because of its crystal clear and shallow waters – ideal for children.
Alcudia is also one of those resorts which achieves just the right mix of quiet and relaxation whilst still having bars, restaurants, attractions and shops for families to enjoy too.
The hotel itself will please both the kids and the grown-ups. Just look at all the pools! The children will think it’s awesome, we’re sure! Plus there is an adult-only roof-top pool and bar area, for a little adult-only time when the kids are busy!
One pool has its own pirate ship and splash area, plus daytime mini, maxi and teeny clubs, to keep kids from 4 to 15 years entertained.
5) Vila Petra Hotel, Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal
This hotel is a quality 4* property and while it hasn’t gone down the route of kids clubs and water parks, it has a nice mix of things to do onsite for both you and the kids. It has really thought about the fact that adults and kids want different things from a holiday in that both, if they are quite honest, would happily not see the other for a few hours!
So with that in mind, Vila Petra has separated things nicely. There’s one pool for adults and one for kids. You can enjoy the Turkish baths, gym, squash and tennis courts and the sauna, whilst the kids can make the most of the playground, games room and a host of outdoor activities. It’s a really lovely way for the family to enjoy their time together but also have some much needed ‘me-time’.
6) Diverhotel Tenerife Spa & Garden, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife
This 4* hotel is in a peaceful area in the north of Tenerife, which is great for families looking for a sun and beach-filled holiday.
There are a good selection of shops, restaurants, bars, cafés and many other attractions nearby. The hotel also has incredible views of Mount Teide, which will amaze all the family. They’ll be fascinated to learn about how the Canary Islands were formed… Well, maybe not but it’s worth a shot.
This hotel is a real treat for the little grown-ups in your life, it offers what they call ‘Communicating Rooms’ – these are a wonderful way for families with slightly older children to experience a little independence, while allowing adults some alone time. Many of the rooms are also themed, which children really cherish. Rooms come in Wild West, Dinosaur and the Seven-Seas themes, which all sound amazing! Dinosaurs or Wild West!? That’s such a tough decision and not one to be taken lightly.
Around the hotel are outdoor activities such as a crazy golf course, which all the family can enjoy together. In the evenings there’s a wide choice of themed entertainment and live acts.
This hotel has really thought about its clubs too. It has Delfi Mini (4-6 years), Mini (7-11 years) and Teens (12-18 years) – which offers super cool activities like paddle boarding, that’ll make the adults envious and grumpy teens eager to join in! A nice touch is the hotels Maxi club – a club for the grown-ups! Offering classes such as yoga, Zumba, body combat and PUMP.
7) Crieff Hydro, Crieff, Scotland
Fun, family holidays don’t only have to be overseas. Check out this super cool 900 acre estate, with its very own Victorian spa! This 4* resort offer activities galore. Seriously, you can do so much here that we can’t possibly cover it all in this blog!
Off-roading, tennis, a rifle range, a cinema, quad biking, horse riding, boat hire, bush-craft, a wildlife centre – this doesn’t even scratch the surface! All can be enjoyed by the entire family while there is also an adult only spa for the mums and dads who are exhausted from a day full of activities!
Families can choose from the hotel or self catering units, ensuring you can make the holiday just right for your family. There is also a creche and a whole host of kids clubs, giving you some time for r & r. The onsite restaurants also have the kids in mind when it comes to specially designed child-friendly menus, which ensure they get the goodness they need after a fun-filled day.
8) Arbatax Park Resort Cottage, Sardinia, Italy
A stylish village of luxury 4* cottages within the Arbatax Park Resort, around 50 metres from the shimmering Mediterranean, this little piece of Italian heaven has over 60 hectares of land and has dedicated sport and leisure facilities for all the family. The Cottages are decorated in a traditional Sardinian style, which is lovely for the family to experience something different.
This resort claims to be family-proof, as it says the grown-ups can relax while the kids are taken care of. Sounds good, huh?
As well as its mini and junior kids clubs, it has a playground and wildlife area for the kids to enjoy, along with activities such as sea canoeing and archery.
This resort also has its own traditional Italian clay oven Pizzeria – where the family can enjoy freshly cooked authentic pizzas, plus its very own Italian Amphitheatre, which puts on its own shows!
Come on – have we got you excited? Never mind the kids – these places look pretty cool don’t they? Precious family holidays create life-long memories, so make them count.
