Paradise without the price

Holidays are what we look forward to all year, a chance to escape, finally relax and forget about the stress at home. For many of us holidays are essential and not be sacrificed no matter what budget constraints you have.

We’ve taken a look at destinations that are truly idyllic with beautiful scenery and can be easily described as paradise, but are kind on the purse strings.

Kefalonia, Greece

Kefalonia is one of the smaller Greek islands but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in scenery. As you can see above, the landscape of deep blue water with a backdrop of green mountains certainly makes it look heavenly. The main beach and probably the most picturesque is Myrtos beach, which is in a small cove, surrounded by mountains. Although it’s a popular destination, Kefalonia has managed to stay unspoilt and kept its secluded feel.

Antalya, Turkey

Located in the southwest, Antalya is one of the quieter parts of Turkey; it provides plenty of history and of course gorgeous beaches. There are plenty of areas to choose from in this part of Turkey; Side, Belek and Lara all offer historical, roman ruins alongside clean, unspoiled beaches. Probably the beach that stands out the most to me is the secluded Olympos beach. It’s just outside of Antalya and is a peaceful heaven for beach lovers. Olympos is a traditional village and is worth a visit or even a stay in one of the tree house hotels. If you want to experience natural beauty and don’t like sharing the beach with many people then this is ideal.

Formentera, Spain

Formentera

Formentera is not as famous as its Balearic neighbours Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza, which is why it’s so easily forgotten. The island offers a tranquil escape in truly beautiful surroundings. The beaches have crystal clear waters and long white stretches of sand, which most importantly isn’t over crowded. Playa Illetes has a particularly tropical feel to it and it’s easy to forget you’re actually in Spain. Most of the island is protected so you won’t find the usual built up hotels and buildings. The island is very quiet so you could treat it as a day trip away from the hectic scene from Ibiza if you wanted a wind down, personally from looking at this picture I could stay there forever!

Rab, Lopar, Croatia

Croatia is well known for its beauty and there are plenty of resorts to choose from. Probably one of the lesser known resorts is the island of Rab. One of the more impressive beaches is the aptly named Paradise Beach which is in Lopar. Paradise Beach is exactly what you would expect, sandy beaches and clear water. The sea temperature becomes very warm in the summer, reaching up to 28 degrees which makes it like a warm bath. Just a word of warning, the beach is clothing optional!

Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

Probably one of the more obvious ones to mention but I had to feature it just for its beaches. The best part of Sharm is probably Nabq Bay, which offers a more tranquil setting than Namma Bay or Sharm centre. The most striking part of Nabq Bay is actually under the sea. Diving and snorkelling in this part of Egypt is magical. The surrounding beaches are clean with golden sand and are a lot quieter than the busier resorts.

Have you been to any of these? Anywhere you think we’ve missed out?
