Take a visit to the Costa Dorada this year

The Costa Dorada or as it is traditionally known as Costa Daurada, is located on the coast of Spain; known as the Golden Coast it attracts thousands of holidaymakers year after year. With its miles of golden beaches, stunning natural beauty and enough activities to keep you entertained 24/7 it’s no wonder that so many keep coming back. There is an abundance of resorts to head to which will cater for all ages. We’ve picked out some of the key features of Costa Daurada which make it stand out as an ideal holiday destination.

Wonderful Beaches…
If you’re a beach lover then the Costa Daurada is your idea of heaven with its miles of clean sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. The main beach resorts are Cambrils, Salou, Tarragona and La Pineda (or Vila-seca, La Pineda Platja, which is its official name) and there are also many small fishing villages which make a lovely  base to relax in. Many of the beaches have been awarded blue flags for both their cleanliness and safety. The beaches along the Costa Daurada coast range from lively (Salou), peaceful (Cambrils) and picturesque but we can guarantee you that they are all very beautiful.

Family Getaways…
If you’re weighing up where you spend your next family break then you really should consider the Costa Daurada resorts. There is a huge choice of activities for kids of all ages with fantastic water parks, theme parks and water sports as well as some excellent child facilities in all main areas. Salou, Cambrils, Calafell and Vila-seca and La Pineda Platja are all fully equipped for family holidays and have even been accredited as top family destinations by the Turisme de Catalunya (Catalonia Tourist Board). Many hotels in the area provide great child facilities and clubs and you’ll find that restaurants are very accommodating. As I previously mentioned the beaches are known for being exceptionally clean and safe which will come as a great comfort for parents whilst the little ones are enjoying the sea. There are often activities hosted on the popular beaches such as sandcastle building, water games and other fun games which will keep the kids entertained for a few hours.

PortAventura Theme Park…
If you want to have a day out with a bit of a difference the PortAventura theme park provides an thrilling day out where you can explore both the huge theme park and outdoor water park. The park is located a short distance from Salou and has a huge choice of rides for both kids and big kids alike. If you’re into your white knuckle rides then you won’t be disappointed here as this spring Europe’s tallest rollercoaster ‘Shambhala’ will be completed and is bound to make even the most fearless end up with their stomach in their mouths! The park also has a fantastic supply of rides for a younger audience with a whole area of the park ‘SesamoAventura’ dedicated to children.

Of course the Costa Daurada offers a lot more than just beautiful beaches and culture and history fans will truly be in their element whilst exploring the rich history this part of Spain has to offer. The city of Tarraco contains many ancient Roman ruins which dates back to Julius Caesar’s reign and is a fascinating day out. The two monasteries of Poblet and Santes Creus are also local landmarks which are built in Romanesque architecture with a slight gothic feel. But it’s not just ancient culture that Costa Daurada has to offer, there is a spectacular Modernist movement in the area which is most prominent in Reus. The small village of Reus has a rich choice of Modernist buildings in which you can take a walking tour and immerse yourself in the stunning architecture. Art lovers will also enjoy the Centre Miro in Mont-roig del Camp, where you can enjoy Joan Miro’s work, much of which was inspired by the Costa Daurada landscape.

It may interest you to know that the Costa Daurada has four golf courses on which golf players of all skill ranges can play in a beautiful setting. The main courses are located in Calafell, Mont-roig del Camp, Reus and Tarragona. If you are planning a golfing trip then look no further; with the top quality courses and year round good climate it makes a great location. There are also 3 more golf courses within PortAventura which are situated between Salou and Vila-seca, La Pineda Platja, so if you did want to play a round while the others play in the park you can. For those looking for a less serious game then you could also play a game of pitch and putt.

These are just a selection of things to enjoy in the Costa Daurada and there is so much more to enjoy but we would run out of space if we looked at them all! This really is a beautiful place to visit with a huge choice of facilities which will cover all types of holidaymakers for all types of holidays. As the area benefits from year round good weather you can visit all year long but obviously the high season will have a lot more going on (plus the weather will be at its best). Some airlines fly to Reus which is in the heart of the Costa Daurada area but if not then Barcelona airport is just an hours drive away. If you think that a Costa Daurada holiday could be next on your list then check out the resorts and hotels we have available.
