Which Costa is For You?

Spain is a big and beautiful country, so it’s understandable that sometimes it’s difficult to decide where to go. In fact, there are 12 different Costas in the coastal areas of mainland Spain that each offer a different type of holiday experience.

We’ve explored four of the most popular Costas and the resorts that you should consider staying in.

Costa del Sol

‘The Coast of Sun’ as it’s often referred to is ideal for a family beach holiday. Benalmadena is a particularly beautiful beach resort with a fantastic marina area, ideal for evening meals and boat trips. The Medplaya Hotel Bali is a great place to stay if you want to be close enough to all the restaurants, but still want to enjoy a bit of peace of quiet.

Nerja beach, Costa del sol

For beach lovers, you could try the Medplaya Balmoral Hotel, which is footsteps away from the beachfront and close to Tivoli World (great for kids but I had a great time myself). Other areas worth visiting are Torremolinos, Nerja and Marbella.

Costa Brava

Found in the north eastern part of Spain, it is home to the resorts of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar and is a short distance from Barcelona. For a more peaceful beach holiday I’d recommend heading to Tossa de Mar. The resort has a laid back atmosphere and retains a genuine Spanish feel, with winding cobbled streets and traditional buildings.

Santa Cristina beach, lloret de mar

For a relaxing break the Medplaya San Eloy Aparthotel is worth considering. It benefits from being hidden in the Spanish countryside (well actually a forest!), as well as being a few minutes away from the beach, perfect! Lloret de Mar is just along the coast, and still offers beautiful beaches but has a little more entertainment in the evenings. It’s also home to Water World Aqua Park, perfect for a fun family day out.

Costa Dorada

One of the most recognised resorts in this Costa has to be Salou. It is a fun filled beach resort with blue flag beaches and plenty of restaurants, bars and entertainment. Salou also happens to be neighbours with PortAventura Theme Park.

Salou, Costa Daurada

The Medplaya Calypso hotel benefits from being just a 10 min walk from the beach and 3 km from PortAventura so is in an ideal position for a Salou holiday. For a beach holiday with a slower pace I’d recommend a visit to Cambrils.

Costa Blanca

Home to the very popular resort Benidorm, Costa Blanca has to be one of the busiest of the Costas. You can’t ignore Benidorm as it’s one of the most famous resorts in Spain and we just love it. It is a bustling beach resort packed with restaurants, bars, theme parks, water parks and much more.

Wide angle of the Iconic hotel skyscraper skyline of Benidorm and Levante Beach, with unrecognisable people enjoying the sunshine and the Mediterranean Sea in Benidorm on the Costa Blanca, province of Alicante in Spain.

If you want to be in the centre of all of the action then the Medplaya Regente Hotel is in an ideal pace, just 150 m from Levante Beach (the most popular beach in Benidorm). Elsewhere in Costa Brava, you’ll find the bustling port city of Alicante.
