About Czech Republic

This is a country with a proud history and citizens who are still reveling in their fairly new found independence and are keen to show off all that the Czech Republic has to offer.

The Czech Republic makes a great holiday destination for anybody hoping to explore this fascinating region with the capital city Prague as the undoubted highlight. A compact and beautiful city to navigate, it should be at the very top of everybody’s list of places to go in Europe. There are numerous quaint side streets and traditional restaurants where you can rest your weary feet and replenish your appetite (and thirst).

Outside of Prague the regions of Pardubice and South Moravia are great places to stop off for a glimpse into the vast and glorious countryside on offer in the Czech Republic. Brno is the second largest city and also well worth a visit.

When To Go

The Czech Republic enjoys a typical European climate with warm, dry summers and relatively cold winters. The best time to go is when the weather is warmest, between May and September. July is the hottest month and temperatures can reach into the 30s. The cities such as Prague are equally beautiful in the winter though just as long as you pack your coat.

Sightseeing and must-sees

  • Czech beer-tasting, Prague
As with most eastern European countries, the Czech Republic prides itself on its beer. The best place to sample some is of course the capital, where you can find many breweries offering tours and tasting sessions.
  • Explore Prague on foot
The best way to take in this beautiful, historic city is on your own two feet. Dart down quaint back alleys to discover a hidden gem of a restaurant or climb up the hill to get up close and personal with the famous castle.
  • Karlstejn Castle, Prague
Just 30km outside of the capital this medieval castle rises ominously above the village where it was built in 1348 by Charles IV to hide his crown jewels. The peaceful surroundings make it a must visit and tours run all through the year.
  • Visit Brno, Moravia region
Often forgotten owing to the popularity of Prague, make sure you visit this superb city even if it’s just for the day. The stunning Spilberk Castle houses an excellent museum and the local cuisine is exquisite.
  • Watch sport in Pardubice
This area of the Czech Republic is mad on sport and you can take in horse racing, ice-hockey and speedway in this city or all three if your time permits.
