About Istanbul

One of only a handful of transcontinental cities in the world, a holiday to Istanbul really is a unique experience, with one side of the city being part of Europe and the other Asia. The city is positioned on both sides of the Bosphorus River, itself playing a connecting role, linking the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. Because of this Istanbul is a city of divided culture and traditions, which is makes it such an exciting place to visit.

Today, Istanbul is a city of over 14 million inhabitants, which gives it a real hustle and bustle. The city, originally known as Byzantium, has been home to some of the world's greatest empires; the Ottoman, Roman, Byzantine and Latin rulers all calling the great city their home.

When To Go

The climate around Istanbul is, as with the city itself, unique. Two large bodies of water influence the daily weather and the climate is said to be broken into a series of micro-climates. This isn't of any worry for the average visitor though as, in general, the weather is borderline Mediterranean. Average highs during the European summer months are around 27°C.
