Our half board stay at the Melia Coral coincided with with the Croatian ATP tennis tournament: which meant the hotel was fairly busy, but there was still plenty of room each day by the pool and in the restaurants. Sun loungers by the pool and beach are plentiful.
The food is what you'd expect from a hotel buffet, there's plenty to choose from for both veggies and meat eaters. I found the Terrace restaurant and beach side cafe didn't have much choice and the food wasn't that good.
The cooking and local produce demonstrations at lunch time and the evening wine, cheese and grappa tastings are interesting and provide an alternative to the sports activities and all day sunbathing.
It's an ideal place for relaxing, but if you like to be a bit more adventurous you need to tour the region as there's not much to see and do in Umag. There's a handful of small restaurants and ice-cream parlours near by.
There are plenty of tours (Plitvice lakes, Fish Picnic, Istrian Mosaic, Venice, 4x4 trips etc) which can be booked via Istratourist nearby. The tours are good, but to really see the villages and spend enough time there you need to hire a car, public transport didn't seem to be an option.
It's a good 4* hotel not a 5*. It's clean, well maintained and the staff are friendly.
Croatia is a beautiful country and well worth a visit.
