Elysium Hotel

Paphos, Cyprus

5 Star Hotel

Info

The Elysium is a five star deluxe hotel with a world-class Spa, which offers an entirely unique experience to leisure and business visitors to Cyprus.

Situated next to the ancient Tombs of the Kings, the Elysium is 'A SANCTUARY FOR THE BODY AND SOUL'. The hotel offers a harmonious blend of luxury, tranquillity and seclusion; colonnades, mosaics, waterfalls and pools form an elegance echoed by a discreet and gracious welcome. Journey through time and discover hidden delights and timeless treasures.

The Elysium enjoys uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea and has been sensitively designed in a palatial style primarily influenced by the Byzantine era. The cultural references of its architecture evoke the rich history of Cyprus and combine elements from Greek, Roman, Medieval and Venetian times. A blend of local stone, marble and timber, warm muted colours and decorative features such as mosaics, arches and columns reflect the aims of the designers to create a sense of place and tradition, where guests can enjoy a relaxing and stimulating holiday in a peaceful and secluded environment.

The Elysium is situated on the beach, in the historical heartland of the ancient city of Paphos, next to the archaeological site of the Tombs of the Kings. A beautiful hotel with wonderful grounds comprising a cleverly designed pool area with plenty of space for loungers, gardens with lovely planting of palm trees, shrubs, flowers, and a beach area.
The overall design of the buildings, grounds and interior is amazing. The attention to detail and quality, and outstanding customer service (well trained, friendly & attentive staff) are astonishing.
The breakfasts & plentiful evening buffets meant our 1/2 board arrangement was more than enough for a whole day. The quality of the food was great.

The only downside is that immediately outside the hotel's grounds it is all a bit scruffy. Illness prevented much exploring beyond the Pafos harbour area - a very ordinary place - but we did see some archeology which needs more time to do it all justice.
Top Tip: Tomb of the Kings next to the hotel was interesting because of the excavated ruins but what had a very big impact were the range & beauty of the flowers, and the number of birds. It was like a wildlife haven.

The busses work well, easy to use.

A superb hotel with excellent food and very friendly staff. There is a picturesque walk along the seafront to the port, which takes around 25 minutes or you are able walk into the old town in around 20 minutes.
Top Tip: A room with a sea view is a bonus if at all possible. There are a number of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance.

1. The only disappointment was the beautiful outside swimming pools were not heated and were far too cold to swim in.
2. The Table D`Hote menu was excellent and better quality than the buffets.
3. There is no animation and the entertainment was somewhat subdued and limited.

Otherwise, great facilities, friendly staff and service, and really good, quiet location.
Top Tip: Good walks to Paphos Old Town and Harbour.
Tea for Two restaurants on the main road nearby, and in the Old Town are excellent.

I have stayed in most of the hotels in Paphos over a period of 11 years and this was my second trip to the Elysium which is head and shoulders above the other so called 5 star hotels, including the very overrated Annabelle. Apart from the luxurious surroundings, the standard of cuisine is magnificent with the hotel providing really high quality produce and top class chefs. All the bread and pastries are made fresh every day at the hotel whilst the choice available at the breakfast buffet is stunning, offering every conceivable dish and combining breakfast and lunch into one. My only criticism having been full board is that the food could have been better as it was sometimes only lukewarm at best.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the service first class. A basic wi-fi connection is free but a much faster connection speed is available at a hefty price but is worth it if you use the Internet for anything other than just reading your emails.
Drinks are hideously expensive so I frequented the local bars and tavernas instead of paying hotel prices.

I'd recommend going in low season as it is terrific value.
Top Tip: O'Neils Irish bar offers reasonably priced drinks if you don't want to pay Elysium prices.

For excellent value car rentals use auto union which is situated very close to paphos airport
