Beautiful conversion of an old convent with cloisters and a central covered area, which is an architectural gem. On the plus side, the central bar area is elegant and understated, the staff could not be nicer and the service impeccable and the surrounding area is quiet and pleasant. It is near the Champ de Mars and the Esplanade, with the Citadel a short walk away. The Champ de mars has a huge car park, which costs 4euros a day, and is free on Sundays. The 'navette' ', the little shuttle bus does a round trip to the centre at a cost of 80 cents. It goes every ten minutes and you can hail it anywhere. It is extremely good value.
The minus aspects of the hotel? The restaurant is expensive and there is only one very small bar-restaurant in the immediate vicinity as an alternative. It is not open every evening, either.
The hotel has limited car parking At a very costly 18 euros a day. Our room was very dark and faced a blank wall and a well area which was full of rubbish. Not a nice prospect. Were we unlucky? Other rooms had daylight! It did spoil it for me.
“ Top Tip: Park on the Champ de Mars. Use the shuttle bus into the centre, you'll NEVER manage to park!

The hotel was disappointing. Having stayed there in 2007 I wanted to take my husband to the hotel but the room was less than satisfactory. It was dark with little ventilation - so hot the milk curdled and we had to request a fan. The shower was almost unusable as it was built into a sloping roof and it was not possible to stand up under the shower head - I am not excessively tall at 5'4". The kettle leaked and we had to request a replacement.
The communal areas (bar/lounge/restaurant/lobby) are beautiful and quite breathtaking. The hotel was under-occupied but even so my requested room was not allocated - we were offered an upgrade at an additional 20 euros per night which I presume would have given us an acceptable room similar to that which had been allocated to me on my previous stay.
Our room was not up to the standard expected of a 4* hotel and I would, therefore, have difficulty recommending it.
“ Top Tip: The old town of Lille is definitely worth visiting but Euralille Shopping Mall is the same as shopping malls all over the world.

“ Top Tip: Hotel located only 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Lille (Grand Place). All restaurants in this area were fantastic value for money, friendly and fab food.

The interior of the hotel is really wonderful , however after paying an upgrade of 60 euros for 3 nights found the room no more than average , made us wonder what the basic room would have been like .
Drinks in the hotel bar very expensive 34 euros for 2 beers & 2 disoronos.
“ Top Tip: The restaurant directly opposite the hotel across the water I think is called Au quai des Wault is very old fashioned French probably hasn't changed in years but the food was superb. The bar Tabac just around the corner great for a leisurely drink run by a couple of pleasant young ladies at reasonable prices

“ Lovely hotel with amazing interior in the entrance etc. Room was very nice (looks almost ready for an upgrade but was fine for the weekend). Very happy with the stay although had to wait 1 hour for a taxi to our dinner reservation. Not a huge deal as they called our restaurant to let us know but they were a little slow in sorting out a 2nd taxi once they realised the 1st was not coming. Still didn't ruin the weekend though.
“ Top Tip: le Quartier Gourmet Restaurant. Incredible food and not overly expensive. One of the best meals I have had.
