Hotel Rocce Sarde

San Pantaleo, Sardinia, Italy

3 Star Hotel

Info

Sardinian escapes don’t come any better than this charming retreat. Overlooking the foamy seas, the Rocce sits marooned on a cliff top. Pin-drop peaceful, it’s perfect for a secluded escape à deux. But that’s not to say you’re totally off the beaten track here. Hop in the car and you’ll be in the little village of San Pantaleo in less than five minutes. Here, you’ll find cutesy shops and Italian restaurants. Or for a spot of sunbathing, Rena Bianca beach is just a further five minute drive or you can catch the hotel’s shuttle bus. With sands as white as laundered sheets and diamond-clear waters, it’s irresistible.

Once you arrive at the Rocce though, you’ll find it hard to leave. With its weathered walls, terracotta-tiled roofs and use of natural wood, it blends beautifully into its scenic surroundings. Start as you mean to go on by the pool. Sunk into a tiled patio, it’s flanked by sun loungers that sit under the shade of swishing trees. There’s also a pool bar, so you don’t have to move far for ice-cold refreshments. When you fancy something a little more active though, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy. Don your whites and enjoy a game of tennis on the courts. Hop on a mountain bike and explore the surrounding countryside. Or join one of the boat trips arranged by the hotel.

However you work up an appetite, dining here is always a highlight. Skilled chefs serve up food for the soul morning, noon and evening. Always prepared from local ingredients, it’s served al fresco on the panoramic terrace. To set the scene for romance, dinner is always preceded by an aperitif under the starlit sky. And don’t miss the traditional Sardinian evening, held each once a week, weather permitting. Step inside the Rocce and you’ll be just as impressed. Traditionally Italian with home-from-home comforts and stylish décor, it’s all cool tiled flooring and sink-into sofas. The sort of place where the staff will do their best to make your stay extra special, this serene sanctuary is a solid chunk of charm.

An excellent hotel, with great friendly staff - all fluent in 2/3 languages - who give everything to ensure a relaxing break. All the rooms are a good size, clean and well appointed with compact bathrooms - showers in all rooms. The food is extremely good with an extensive and unlimited choice of anti-pasti and three choices for all other courses. The wines are well priced with a broad selection.
The pool area is always clean and the water clear and compliant with all local regulations, and it has the advantage of a pool bar serving soft and alcoholic drinks together with hot and cold freshly prepared snacks. Live entertainment is provided by the pool bar until 11.00pm each evening.
Probably not a hotel for anyone with mobility difficulties as the access to the pool area from the main hotel is quite steep, but the hotel provides free transport to the beach which compensates.
Exceptionally well managed by Lucia who sets particularly high standards and ensures that they are maintained by all staff.
It is very easy to recommend this hotel.
Top Tip: The local beach - transport from the hotel - is great for children and there is a good beach bar serving food and drink. The local village has good restaurants and market.
