“ Evening meal not so good, plenty of restaurants around though. Breakfast ok though. It's not what I think as 4 star, but your not paying 4 star, so no problem for me. Hotel staff extremely friendly and hotel is clean enough. I can see how people can complain about this and that. Air con works well, it's clean, staff are nice and it a good price. Topaz is a hotel complex situated in the popular resort of Bugibba, Malta. The hotel facilities include a small indoor and an outdoor swimming pool for adults and children, restaurants and bars, others. It is an ideal choice for families and couples looking for a relaxing and entertaining holiday. The hotel is within a short distance from the beach, 1 km from the town centre and approximately 17 km from the airport.

“ This is tired hotel. It was probably at it's best in the 80's and 90's when I expect it was probably top notch. It still functions well and I liked it. The double rooms really are 2 good size rooms, both with balconies. The beds were really comfortable. I like the pool which was well maintained and a good 30m. It's a bit sad, the hotel just needs a revamp to bring it back to it's former glory. Good value value so cant complain.
“ Top Tip: Go to Gozo on a boat trip. Watch out for Jellyfish, don't swim without goggles. Enjoy the local food and ice creams which are much like Italian. Fat Harry's bar was excellent for food drink and live music. Use local buses which are comfortable, air conditioned, regular and cheap.

“ This was not a 4 star hotel. Very very dated. It smelt fusty and old. Food was ok considering what we paid.

“ Staff were very helpful and friendly. The Hotel is very tired and may have gained a 4* rating at some point but needs a major overall to bring it up to date. It is however very clean and although new sun loungers and umberallas are needed around the pool the pool itself is very nice and well maintained. The major fault we found was with the hotel generators which are located at ground level and run 24 hours a day. Our apartment overlooked this which wasnt very nice, constant noise.
“ Top Tip: Turn left and head to the main road for the nearest bus stops. Getting around the island on a 7 day pass, or a day pass which was only 2.60 euro, is so easy.

I booked the Topaz half board expecting a 4 star experience which turned out to be 1/2 star experience. To start off I asked for a kettle and cups in the room to facilitate the taking of medication, after paying for rental of the kettle it took 4 reminders before it was eventually delivered. The accommodation we were given was an annex away from the main complex, which entailed 2 different lift transfers and a walk under the road, we asked to be moved to the main complex and the young receptionist refused to even entertain. We had a balcony with no furniture, the television did no work and we felt isolated.
The dinning room is something to be seen, to start the tables had oil skin table clothes. Unless you were in the dinning room for the first sitting 9 times out of 10 you had to clear the previous occupiers dirty crockery and cutlery before you could even sit down. The plates were always cold and a good percentage of the evening meals were unpalatable, the soup was barely warm, chicken legs were under cooked, potatoes still raw. No food is actually cooked on the premises but is provided by an outside cater and the staff are all from an agency who have no interest in the guests. How can anybody rate this hotel as 4 star makes me wonder who does the ratings.
When we talked to other guest, especially those booked for long holidays 4 weeks and over we found that the hotel was closing at the end of the month of October, and everything was in order until the end of May when the usual staff all left or were made redundant.
At meal times there was never any management staff around to talk to guest and find out any feed back or complaints, I can only presume that they were avoiding the dinning room because of poor standards and food quality. Its wonder that a major food poisoning hasn't occurred although during our stay were heard numerous stories of guests have upset stomachs.
