The art-deco charm of Hotel Britania as part of a project by Cassiano Branco, the illustrious Portuguese modernist architect, is located on a quiet street right alongside the cosmopolitan Avenida da Liberdade.
The only hotel to remain intact until today, this hotel records the glamour of the 1940’s.
Everything about its design strives to reawaken the spirit of the unit without losing its original soul.
The rooms conserve ample dimensions as well as the cork floor. The warm colours contrast with the elegant lines of the furniture and the luster light fittings.
The recovery of the whole building is exemplary as is the case of the paintings in the bar alluding to the Portuguese overseas empire.
Tradition and modernity living side by side. The 33 spacious rooms, all equipped with a anteroom and marble bathroom, are equipped with air-conditioning, a free safe, satellite TV, free access to broad band wireless, LCD TV, DVD/CD reader, Molton Brown amenities, hairdryer and bath robes.
Atmosphere and services, almost a private club: Breakfast buffet, library, Império Bar, 24h room service, laundry, free access to broad band wireless, free use of the computer and a printer with internet access, video library, postal service and a garage are just some of the services at your disposal at Hotel Britania.

Get the staff to recommend some real portugese restaurants. There are a few within walking distance.
Also they can arrange tickets for the open top bus tours around the city. However the hotel is in an ideal situation for most attractions.

Great hotel. Lovely staff. Fantastic for long weekend as in the centre and everywhere is walkable.
Coffee in the rooms could be improved, but that's the only criticism!

An attractive hotel, and our room was large and well-appointed. The reception staff all spoke English and were friendly and informative.
One downside was that our 'double room' had two single beds pushed together and, as we had to wait for 90 minutes beyond the checking in time to access our room, we did not want to waste further time by asking to be moved. We did not try the breakfast as it did not appear to be a buffet and there was no information on it in the room. Minor niggles were the lack of a suitcase stand and soap dishes but we were not impressed by the cleaning of the room prior to our arrival - it appeared pristine but, after 3 days, a sock which presumably belonged to a previous occupant mysteriously appeared on our suitcase - from under the bed, we guessed.
“ Top Tip: Nearest Metro station is Avenida, only minutes away. Public transport is very cheap, but taxis are also a good way to get around. The fare to the beautiful Jeronimos monastery at Belem was less than 10 Euros. There is a tourist information office only 5 minutes walk away near Restauradores metro station, where you can book trips and restaurant tables. Worth a visit on your first day - we discovered it on our last afternoon! The main square at Praca de Comercio (great New Year fireworks) is 15-20 minutes walk. Many restaurants within easy walking distance.
