  • We had stayed at this hotel many years ago when it was under different ownership/management and had enjoyed our stay then. However, this time we were surprised at how much better it was and how many improvements had been made since we were last there.

We had stayed at this hotel many years ago when it was under different ownership/management and had enjoyed our stay then. However, this time we were surprised at how much better it was and how many improvements had been made since we were last there. The rooms are basically furnished but clean and comfortable. We had rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the town square with ornamental fountains, flower beds and seating which was all very nice, particularly at night when the fountains were lit up. Our rooms were cleaned every day and towels and bedding changed regularly.

The food was good and there was a good choice of hot and cold dishes. However, don't expect a full English for breakfast or pie/steak and chips or roast beef and two veg for dinner because that is not what is on offer! You're in a different country with a different culture so expect the food to be different also.

There is a lovely swimming pool and surrounding terrace. Unfortunately, we were unable to spend anytime by the pool as ALL the sunbeds were 'reserved' every morning by 7.30 and we had no intentions of getting up before the crack of dawn to get one. Instead, we went to the beach every day and always managed to get a sunbed with no problem. We managed to get an amazing tan as well!

There are a lot of shops, restaurants and bars right on the doorstep and throughout the resort so plenty to look at and do if you don't want to spend 24 hours a day in the hotel.

All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and would recommend The Vela Hotel to anyone who is thinking of paying a visit to Icmeler.

Top Tip: There are lots of good bars and restaurants close by but we spent most of our evenings (after dinner at the hotel) at The No Name Bar a few hundred yards away. (Turn right out of the hotel, right again, a few yards along to the main road, cross over, turn left and second on the right - about a 3 minute walk in all.) They were serving 2 for 1 on all drinks and cocktails while we were there so really good value and a very lively night!

Variety of food. I went all inc. I always found some choice i liked. Location of hotel is great, being right near the square & not far to the beach. Defo will be going back next year!!!!!!!:)

Top Tip: Hotel is surrounded by good restaurants. Promenade is a lovely walk, especially as the sun goes down. Lovely atmosphere.
