Carberry Tower

Musselburgh, East Lothian, United Kingdom

4 Star Castle

Info

This 15th-century castle dates back to Mary, Queen of Scots, and is set in 35 acres of stunning parkland. The centre of Musselburgh is a 5-minute drive from the building.

Rooms at the magnificent Carberry Tower are all unique and traditional in style. Each also comes with a work desk and facilities for making tea and coffee.

There are a variety of natural features, including rose gardens and a lily pond, and you can often see free-roaming wildlife. The building still retains charming old staircases, fireplaces, and stained-glass windows.

The beach is a 10-minute drive from Carberry Tower, and Edinburgh city centre is 8 miles from the building. Parking is free on site, and Wi-Fi is free to use in public areas of the building.

The room was basic, but fine and provision was made for an early breakfast on our first day which was helpful.
Unfortunately there were no staff at all at breakfast on either day, neither in the restaurant nor on Reception which seemed a little odd, especially as the restauant was not that easy to find if, like us, you were staying in the lodges. The tea (in flasks) was not that hot and tasted stewed and the fried eggs quickly ran out with no one to ask for replacements, although in all fairness there was other food available on the hot buffet, so perhaps I am being picky.

A bit off the beaten track and no taxis at the railway station.
Accommodation modern and a friendly welcome. My single room was small but en suite and had all facilities required. Excellent cuisine at dinner with buffet breakfast very enjoyable.Beautiful historical main building but my room was a lodge just a few minutes walk in the grounds - quiet and secure.
Top Tip: The hotel is set in lovely woodland - beware of the owls which hoot hauntingly! Lots of other wildlife to watch out for, including woodpeckers.
