We've just returned from the delightful Isle of Wight having stayed for 5 nights at the Bugle Coaching Inn, a stones throw away from Yarmouth harbour. This beautifully presented pub is nestled in a quaint little square, with a neighbouring deli, mini-supermarket, restaurants, cafes and boutiques. Free parking is offered at the rear of the pub (pay and display street parking) and the post office has a cash point outside for your convenience.

The owners and staff evidently work extremely hard in both the property presentation and the excellent service that awaits guests. We stayed in the family room for four (the only family room) situated at the very top of the premises. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and our two children slept soundly on 'real beds' not the put-me-up type usually found. The room was accompanied by an en-suite with a bath (no shower as height was limited). The children were kept entertained with a TV during the very short time we spent in the room, tea and coffee making facilities were routinely replenished as was the fruit bowl and bottled water. The housekeeping was attentive, and it was nice to come back to a tidy room and made-up-beds after a very long day exploring the island. If I were pushed for criticism it would be the lack of shelving in the en-suite for four sets of toiletries, the absence of a shower head on the bath to wash hair, the very light, almost see-through window curtains on the bedroom window, and some noise from late night pub-goers as they made their way merrily across the square at chucking-out-time. That said all these minor things didn't detract from what was an enjoyable stay.

The breakfast offered in the morning was varied and extensive and freshly cooked. We sampled the full extent of the menu during our stay, full English breakfast, kippers, scrambled eggs on toast, bacon butty and cereals. All accompanied with tea, coffee and orange juice. The late availability of breakfast (up until 11am) was also a blessing as we tended to have late nights and so late mornings too. We ate in the restaurant for one evening, the food was very good albeit a little expensive for our usual choice (£90 or so for four, 3 x main course, 1 x child meal, 2 x desserts, 1 bottle of wine and a round of drinks) although we were offered a 10% discount off our bill by the owner as we were guests, which was a very nice gesture. I'd advise booking as it's very popular and very busy especially at weekends.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, clean, comfortable, good food and friendly and accommodating staff. An ideal base to explore the island or a perfect location for a quiet get-away in stylish surroundings. We would definitely recommend and return.
Top Tip: For an alternative dinner arrangement try the pizza restaurant around the corner, lovely building, cheap menu, tasty food and friendly staff, a 12" pizza will easily feed two and they do take away too. Also the bakery is great value and choice for sandwiches/rolls made to order ready for the days picnic!
