Let's start with the negatives. From the outside you can see that the hotel is badly in need of repair and renovation. This is confirmed by the reception area and seating which have seen better days, but the bar area and ballroom ( a grand title for the entertainments room) are presentable. My bedroom was really quite nice for a short stay.It was clean and tidy and I had no complaints at all.
The cabaret was also very good and bar prices reasonable, so if you don't expect the Ritz you can have a pleasant stay
Top Tip: Within a short walk from the hotel is a very nice "proper" pub called the Ship, and the shops, bars and restaurants in the Old High Street are very nice.
