We totally enjoyed our family holiday in Orlando, staying at the Sheraton Vistana Resort on International Drive. Our spacious 2 bedroom apartment came complete with a well equipped kitchen (dishwasher, coffee machine, blender, pots/pans, washer and tumble drier) and was only 0.8 miles from a very large supermarket, so self catering was an easy option for us. A daily maid service was pretty comprehensive and more than adequate for our needs, although I did find an unopened pot of pretzels/hummus under the bed when looking for a missing flip-flop which wasn't ours so had clearly been there some time.

The bathrooms were looking a little tired particularly in our main bathroom, but were ok. The showers were powerful but the hot water was not the hottest and took a very long time to come through. It wasn't a problem, but wasn't the most satisfying of showers either!

I had picked up on comments on TripAdvisor before our stay complaining about constant sales pitches from Reception staff to attend Timeshare presentations, so was prepared for this. We did receive daily messages on our answer phone in the room asking us to call and arrange a time to attend a presentation. When we did speak to someone and told them we weren't interested the calls stopped, until the last day when another call came through.

The apartment overlooked one of the lakes, complete with fountain and waterfall and the odd turtle or two swimming around. It was a short walk to the main swimming pool (we were in block 4) which was delightful and very clean. Pool towels provided daily. The pool bar had rather erratic opening times, which would be a criticism as it was very hot during our stay and on more than one occasion the bar was closed at 4pm. It also didn't seem to open before 10.30am, which seemed a bit late. We relied mainly on cold water from our own fridge that we had taken down to the pool.

The only restaurant, the Flagler Bar and Grill was clean and very pleasant with delightful staff and excellent service. The menu was quite limited to chicken/fish/burger and fries and only a very small number of healthier options. We had several lunches there as it was convenient when relaxing by the pool, but we were a bit bored of the menu after 3-4 trips and the novelty wore off as a result. A couple more dishes on the menu would make a huge difference.

There was a selection of fitness centers available to use, whilst we didn't make use of them, they looked pretty comprehensive and very quiet.

Location was excellent - a very quiet and easy drive to all the Disney parks and only down the road from Universal and SeaWorld. The roads were easy to navigate and car parking at the resort was excellent and felt very secure as we had to show ID at the manned security gate every time we came home. An added attraction was the fabulous Premium Outlet Mall which was only a mile away and so large that you could easily spend a day there.

As with most places in Orlando, there were limited options within walking distance of the resort - I did spot a Benihana's restaurant about 200m from the entrance, but other than that you would have to drive to go out for dinner. There seemed to be a regular I-Drive tram bus running up and down International Drive, but we never sought to use it.

Overall, we would definitely come here again, it was an excellent option for us with three children and was surprisingly economical. We had friends staying down the road at another hotel where they were paying 3 times as much per night for two rooms with no facilities and five star prices for drinks by the pool, so we felt quietly smug that we had stumbled upon such a great resort.

A thorough thumbs up!
Top Tip: Premium Outlet Mall on Vineland Avenue - less than a mile away.

Publix Supermarket on Vineland Avenue.

Fantastic hotel to stay in, staff were extremely helpful. rooms were very clean, well ventilated with free wifi. Pool area tidy, plenty of sun loungers for everyone including free towels.
The hotel is central to the parks and is walking distance to a huge supermarket and shopping mall (where you can buy plenty of cheap designer goods).
Top Tip: Not far away from the hotel restaurants are plentiful, two stand out for quality, Chili's for steaks etc and Maggianos Little Italy for Italian food both on International Drive.
