SEPTEMBER 2021, UK: With guaranteed sunshine, cosmopolitan city vibes and adventurous activities, Dubai has always been appealing to UK holidaymakers, but in the past month the destination has rocketed in popularity with a surge of bookings as high as the Burj Khalifa.

After almost seven months on the red list for travel, Dubai was moved to the amber list on 8th August, and travel agent, Travel Republic has revealed an increase in holiday bookings by 78%[i] in comparison to the same period in 2019 pre-pandemic.

With recent research[ii] showing that half of UK holiday makers are planning to take an exotic break to places such as Dubai, it’s no surprise the destination has become so popular. Over 12% of total bookings made with the travel agent in the past month were to the jewel of the UAE, in comparison to just 1.9% during the same month period in 2019.

Dubai being on the amber list, means UK holidaymakers who are fully vaccinated can enjoy a quarantine-free stay and will need to take a PCR test pre-departure to the UK and on day two of their return.

With new hotels and attractions opening and Dubai Expo running throughout 2022, there are plenty of things to look forward to in Dubai, and this is seen in the 50/50[iii] split of early planners and last-minute bookers in the past month.

And whilst there is a Dubai dominance, other long haul destinations are also benefiting from the end of the British summer, with the tropical island of Barbados seeing a bookings increase of 55% compared to the same period in 2019.

Anna Hilley, Long-Haul Destination Trading Manager at Travel Republic said: “Typical British weather didn’t make for a great summer, so holidaymakers are prepared to overlook form-filling and PCR testing for some yearned-for time in the sun. Travel Republic has made travelling long-haul easy and affordable, with holiday checklists before you travel and a Lowest Price Guarantee, making 2022 the perfect time to Go Long Haul.”

Holidaymakers can save up to 45% on a three-night B&B stay at 5* Dukes The Palm, A Royal Hideaway Hotel, from £497pp based on two sharing when flying from London Heathrow on 17 June 2022.

And for a taste of the Caribbean, save up to 25% and receive $200 to spend in resort on a seven-night all inclusive stay at 4* Waves Hotel & Spa by Elegant Hotels in Barbados for £1,391pp based on two sharing when flying from London Heathrow on 16 June 2022.

All Travel Republic holidays are covered with The Holiday Promise, which includes Covid Cover Plus for extra cancellation protection, a 14-day refund assurance and flexible amendments to ensure customers have the worry-free holiday, they deserve.
