A taste of fame in Benidorm

Think you recognise the pool bar above? You probably do as it’s one of the main settings of the hit TV series Benidorm. What you may not have known is that the ‘Solana’ is in fact the Sol Pelicanos- Ocas Hotel, and happens to be one of our most popular hotels in Benidorm. The sixth series of Benidorm is currently being filmed at the hotel and will continue up until June, so if you are staying there is a chance you can catch some of the stars in action – or possibly get famous by featuring in the background, you never know.

Whereas in the series the Solana is shown as a bit of a disaster hotel, the Sol Pelicanos is very popular and well run. In fact, last year the Sol Pelicanos was the most reviewed hotel on travelrepublic.co.uk. It is currently rated 7.8 out of 10 based on a whopping 1,491 reviews, which isn’t surprising when you consider what it has to offer. It’s a family friendly hotel which is ideally situated just a short stroll (300m to be exact) from the infamous Levante Beach. As well as the main lagoon style swimming pool with swim-up bar, there are 2 children’s pools, an adult pool and an activities pool so there’s plenty of choice and no need to fight over sun loungers.

If you’re travelling with kids then it’s perfect for keeping them busy, with a dedicated entertainment programme and Flintstones playground and restaurant. If you haven’t got kids then it’s ideal as well as it’s right in the centre of town and close to all of the buzzing Benidorm nightlife. Make sure you check out Morgans Tavern across the road; it’s actually the setting of the Neptunes Bar on the series but more importantly it has a great atmosphere.

Like the ’Neptunes bar’ in the TV show, the Sol Pelicanos hotel puts on regular entertainment shows, but unlike the programme there are actually good shows! Some of the most popular shows are musicals such as The Lion King and Grease; ideal if you don’t want to leave the hotel but want to be entertained!

The hotel itself offers very reasonable rates with rooms currently starting from just £20 per person per night. If you wanted it there is an all inclusive option which is also very affordable. So if you’re currently in the market for a Benidorm holiday then the Sol Pelicanos is the ideal choice – plus you get bragging points for visiting the ‘Solana’ whilst in Benidorm!

Have you visited the Sol Pelicanos-Ocas Hotel? What did you think?

  • I would like to thank you for your excellent customer srevice during a recent visit to Spain. I had previously booked accommodation with Travel Republic on three occasions for the two of us during our travels round Murcia province.Inadvertently I booked our next hotel in Cartagena just for myself. Travelling to Cartagena we received a call from you querying whether or not it should have been for two people, which it should have been. Thanks to your member of staff our accommodation was changed to two people saving any possible problems at the hotel. Thanks to whoever rang us.
