Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re going to Turkey in the summer, you’re going to want to pack for hot, hot, hot weather: sun cream, sunglasses, comfortable shoes, and a swimsuit.

Winter months are a lot colder than Turkish summers, and you’ll probably experience snow and/or rain on your trip. Bring a winter coat and a raincoat, thermals, gloves, and a scarf.

Make sure you take a few 2 pin plug adapters to charge your phones and cameras. If you’re planning on visiting mosques on your trip, you might also want to bring a (head)scarf and modest clothes. While most mosques will have cover-up dresses on-hand if you’re not dressed appropriately, it’s often better to bring your own.
The weather varies by region but, in general, you’ll find hot weather in summer and cold in the winter.

A Turkish summer is mostly hot and sunny, with July temperatures hitting 30°C and above on the Mediterranean and Aegan coasts. Wherever you go, you’re sure to see plenty of sunshine.

However, winters can get a lot colder, averaging around 10°C. Make sure to wrap up warm if you’re jetting off in January, where you’re likely to see snow and temperatures as low as 2°C.
Brits don’t need a visa to go on holiday to Turkey, as long as you’re not planning to stay for more than 90 days in any 180-day period.
With so much to do and see, Turkey is a great choice for a family holiday. With tonnes of All Inclusive, family-friendly resorts, a range of beaches, and ancient ruins scattered all over the place, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
English isn’t widely spoken in Turkey, so you might want to brush up on your Turkish before you arrive.

Saying that, you’ll likely find at least one person who speaks English in tourist hotspots and hotels in popular holiday destinations such as Istanbul, Bodrum, and Izmir.
Turkey has an amazing network of public transport. Buses are a popular way to get around, but you also have the option of trains, minibuses, domestic flights, and ferries. In many places, you’ll have to pre-buy your tickets or a smart travelcard to take the bus, but in some cities you can still pay when you get on.

Renting a car is a good option if you’re heading off the beaten track or if you’re travelling in a group. It's worth remembering that they drive on the right-hand side in Turkey, and it pays to keep your wits about you as they don’t tend to worry about rules of the road as much as they should!
Depending on where you’re flying to and from, a flight to Turkey can be anything between 3.5 and 5 hours non-stop. It will probably take longer if you have to take a connecting flight.
