The most popular time to visit PortAventura is in July and August. The weather is at its hottest, averaging in the high 20s, and the atmosphere at its most vibrant. The queues for the rides are longer, although look out for days when the park is open till midnight, or even later. Quieter than neighbouring Salou, you can wander the cobbled streets, visit the old castle, and relax with a cocktail overlooking the pretty harbour.You can find reasonably priced hotels in Tarragona, 12km north of PortAventura. The town is a must-visit for history lovers, with its well preserved Roman Colosseum and range of old churches from different eras. There are also lots of good eating and drinking options in the town, including a variety of tapas bars and cafes on the plazas.
