Far from Bulgaria’s coast, which gets most the headlines, Bulgaria’s capital city has grown to become a vibrant, young place with a real mid-80s Berlin vibe to it. Red army monuments, grand churches and ancient Roman ruins mix with its increasingly cool restaurants and bars which attract students and the city’s more arty types. It also backed by the imposing Mount Vitosha which promises winter skiing and spectacular hiking during the summer.
