Istria

Pula

<p>Steeped in history, this attractive town set amid rolling olive groves is home to Venetian houses, a gothic palace and a UNESCO church. It’s not just for history buffs though. It’s home to Blue Flag beaches and a peaceful harbour protected by the island of St Nicholas. There’s also ample choice of bars, pubs and clubs as well as cosy cafes and relaxed music venues.</p><h4>Who is it for?</h4><h5>Families</h5><p>Porec has excellent sports facilities. Go cycling, horseriding or windsurfing. The 6th Century complex of buildings includes a bell tower and baptistery.</p>

Porec

<p>With a coastline full of pretty little bays, Umag offers great beaches and holidays for all budgets, whether you want luxury hotels or caravans and camping. The narrow cobbled streets of its old town are home to historic buildings and galleries, while the marina is packed with boats and sizable yachts. Umag

<p>Set on a hillside in the middle of the Istrian peninsula, this picture perfect town is characterised by its Venetian architecture, narrow cobbled streets, galleries and dinky shingle coves backed by pine forests. It’s also a lively fishing port, with chic lounge bars dotted along the waterfront where early risers can watch the fishermen come in with their morning catch.</p><h4>Who is it for?</h4><h5>Foodies</h5><p>The old town is full of quaint bars and chic restaurants with outdoor tables. Enjoy a glass of Teran, a centuries old Istrian red wine.</p><h5>Beach Lovers</h5><p>Relax on one of the secluded shingle coves.</p><h5>Culture Vultures</h5><p>Explore the wonderful Venetian old town, stopping off at the heritage museum and gorgeous baroque Cathedral of St Euphemia.</p>

Rovinj

<p>The main focus of this small resort is its beach and promenade with restaurants and bars, plus ice cream kiosks, market stalls and souvenir shops. The beach is next to many of the resort’s hotels, so is very handy if you just want to fly and flop.</p><h4>Who is it for?</h4><h5>Families</h5><p>The main beach is lapped by shallow waters, making it ideal for little ones. You can rent sunloungers and parasols.</p><h5>Beach Lovers</h5><p>There are several lovely beaches in the area. In the town, Bijeca spreads for 1km, while Skrape is protected by rocky coastline, perfect for sunbathing.</p><h5>Culture Vultures</h5><p>The town is near the historic city of Pula with its Roman amphitheatre.</p>
