A central district in Berlin, Mitte has a fascinating past. The historical heart of the city whose origins stretch back to the 12th Century, its position in the centre changed after the Second World War when Berlin was divided into four, becoming part of East Berlin. Mitte's fortunes fell during that time but were revived after reunification and it is now known as a vibrant cultural and artistic hub, home to many of Berlin's best known sights.
