Holidays to Benaulim
Despite being a popular holiday area with tourists and locals, this part of the South Goa coast still retains a serene, unspoilt feel. If you are new to India, it’s a great starting point as it’s relaxed and accessible. The beaches have white powdery sand and the sea is clean and inviting. Before tourism became the main industry, Benaulim was primarily a fishing and rice growing village, so the cuisine majors on these ingredients.
This stretch of the South Goa coast has yet to be overly commercialised. Beautiful with just a few shacks and bars.
About 2.5km of powder white sand along the South Goa coast – Colva is dotted with Portuguese villas and ruins.
Church of Saint John the Baptist
Right in the heart of town you’ll find this imposing Christian church, a legacy of the Portuguese colonial days.
Tour Portuguese villas
This area was once occupied by the Portuguese and their legacy lives on in the many grand homes.
Have a real Indian massage. All the knots in your neck and shoulders will be eased away with this traditional technique.
There’s a sense of organised chaos here, with piles of spices piled high and food hawkers cooking on the pavements.
Live royally and enjoy grilled kingfish on the beach with tasty chips and a fresh local salad.
Goan fish curry is packed with delightful flavours and is also highly addictive. So watch out!
