The hotel is more like a 3.5* than a 5*. That said, the rooms are clean and large, the food was consistently varied and good. The best part is the location, across the road from a beautiful white sandy beach and only 5 minutes walk into Santa Maria. My advise is to go All Inclusive, SAL is the most expensive of the Cape Verde Islands. A simple meal, even in the cheapest restaurants, will cost >8 Euros. What let this hotel down for us was the Entertainments Team (Animation) who arrive at the pool from 10:30 and start to play VERY LOUD music too accompany their 'activities'. In two weeks we never saw more that 8 people taking part (very often as low as 3 or 4 people). Despite this the Funana (local rap) music was always played at full volume which spoilt the atmosphere for everyone else. Many people left the pool to get away to other quieter places, such as the beach, but the music was there also, even while guests played football/volley ball. We have tried several times to speak to the Animation Team and the answer is always the same "My Boss says I have to play music loud". The 'entertainment' went on throughout the day and EVERY night between 8-10 pm. We had asked for a quiet room, but they simply don't exist. All of the pool/garden facing rooms surround the pool and stage where the live shows happen every night. Road facing rooms have traffic noise to contend with. We spoke to several Duty Managers but ALL were completely ineffective when dealing with this issue. If you want/need a quiet break, do not go to this hotel, you will not get peace and quiet after 10:30 am.
