Holidays to Alykes
Less developed that some of the tourist resorts that you’ll find on the Ionian Islands, Alykes on Zakynthos is all about clean, natural beaches and green hills. There is a great selection of high-end restaurants and bars serving local specialities and Greek classics. It’s a great location for outdoor activities and for spotting wildlife, such as turtles, although visitors are asked to make sure they’re up to speed on the ‘turtle code’.
Located in the north east of the island, this beach has Blue Flag status and a gentle slope into the Ionian Sea.
Continuing from Alykes Beach, this bay has lovely soft sands and clear waters, making it a popular location.
A treasure trove of sculpture from the Byzantine and Hellenistic eras, it also features icons from island churches.
Cultural Centre and Library
The library here contains over 50,000 works, plus an art gallery and a display of dolls in traditional dress.
With its teeming sea life, the Blue Grotto, at the very tip of the island, is a great spot for scuba diving.
Head into the lesser-known central region as your guide drives down dirt tracks to explore villages and tavernas.
Grab a bottle of good quality ouzo, some local cheeses and herb spiked honey and head to the beach for a picnic.
These gorgeous puff pastry parcels filled with the national cheese, feta, are perfect for lunch on the beach.
A little bit out of town but worth the trip – the proprietor's often seen circulating, handing out free drinks.
Right in the middle of the village, The Sugarbush Cocktail Bar serves top-notch drinks and good food.
